TechInAfrica – The 2019 Westerwelle Young Founders Conference Kigali will be held in Westerwelle Startup Haus in Kigali, Rwanda starting from May 9th – 11th, 2019. East African startups are encouraged to submit their applications for the program. The application is opened until April 22nd.

The Conference aims at educating startup founders about the different series of funding and what investors search for. Through the event, startups will also learn how to manage their internal processes, including flow management, financial budgeting, and step-by-step processes to get them ready for investment.

The Conference is a platform initiated by the Westerwelle Foundation with a strong dedication to creating more opportunities for young innovators by educating, promoting, and connecting them. The initiative is specialized for startups in Eastern Africa—Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda—interested in widening their knowledge about investment.

The 2019 Westerwelle Young Founders Conference Kigali will features workshops by experienced coaches on investment readiness, funding, etc. Through this event, startups will have a chance to meet investors and know their requirement to invest in startups. Moreover, they will also have an opportunity to network with other founders from South Africa as well as travel grants worth up to $200,000.

The program features nine African founders including Edves‘ Sunday Falana’s; LocumBase‘s Zulé Vuuren; Flexpay‘s Johnson Gituma Mwangi; Publiseer‘s Chidi Nwaogu; Eversend‘s Stone Atwine; Powerstove‘s Okey Esse; Coliba‘s Prince Kwame Agbata; and Angazi Elimu‘s Kiko Muuo.

If you are interested in participating in the event, you need to meet the requirements:

  • Founders or co-founders of a startup operating in East Africa—Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, or Tanzania
  • Have first market traction
  • Seek out more knowledge on investment readiness, and
  • Intend to raise fund in the near future

Anna-Lena Kose, Westerwelle Foundation Junior Program Manager, said: “We will have great coaches and investors at the conference who will share insights on what investors focus on and how startups can actually achieve investor readiness.”
