TechInAfrica – Ten startups from Africa and the Middle East have been selected by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to join its Global Business Forum (GBF) Mentorship Program. The program was launched in January this year as part of Africa Tech Summit Kigali.

Among the ten startups, five of them are from Africa. They are FarmGate Africa, a startup that uses advanced technologies to connect international buyers and farming clusters; quip.link, an online marketplace for renting and selling construction equipment; Complete Farmer, a crowd-farming platform that focuses on building sustainable farms; Engineering Hub Ltd, an IT services and solutions provider for mobile and banking integration platforms; and RideSafe, a mobile application that offers real-time health solutions.

The 10 startups had participated in the Chamberthon that took place at Africa Tech Summit Kigali earlier this year. They were selected from 20 startups from Africa and the Middle East. They will participate in the Dubai Mentorship Program for three months which involves training and mentorship sessions. In additions, selected startups will have a chance to partake in a session at the 5th Global Business Forum on Africa in November this year.

According to H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the selection process of the startups is very important since it helps to bridge communications and cooperation between the UAE and African startups. He explained that the selected startups specialize in advanced technologies, smart solutions, artificial intelligence, and fintech.

“Startups are playing an active role in fostering innovation as they leverage and test out cutting-edge technologies that improve the way we live and work. The GBF Mentorship Programme provides an ideal platform for high-potential startups to develop their business concepts, benefit from collaboration, access new growth opportunities through the Global Business Forum on Africa platform, and build valuable partnerships,” he said.
