Five IoTs in Africa That Are Making Headlines

Share

Internet of things (IoTs) has given the world a different phase by linking every single machine to the internet. It has been projected that the IoT installed unit in South Africa will be 35 million come 2020 and this will be in charge of the running of 50% of the county’s revenue by the same year. Here are five IoT startups in Africa that are seen as the game changers.

Vula Telematix

In collaboration with Ingenu startup based in San Diego, the startup has developed The Machine Network SA. The platform majors in offering IoT and M2M solutions with longer lasting period, further reach and a global range than the present network. The company uses its Random Phase Multiple Access (RPMA) technology to link machines wirelessly by reducing the cost of development hence speeding up time to the market.

UjuziKilimo

The Kenyan startup uses Big Data analytics to give critical insights on farming ways and productivity found from the accurate data. The startup has a soil analytic platform that measures soil characteristics for assessing quality in farming use. An electronic sensor placed in the ground, which alerts and gives farmers guidance, via SMS, on real-time soil conditions is part of the hardware part of the platform.

HealthQ

The technology that is based in Stellenbosch helps users to check their whole health and fitness conditions. The solution makes use of the bio-mathematical models to back up fitness trackers and various wearable devices like TomTom’s highly popular Runner2/SPARK. The IoT provides an environment where experts from some fields that includes cloud computing, machine learning, hardware engineering, life science and mechanical engineering can share ideas to offer solutions.

Illuminum Greenhouses

The IoT creates innovative solutions for the agricultural sectors through greenhouse constructions. For the need to maintain and control optimal growing environment, the greenhouses use solar panels and sensors. The greenhouses are modern, and pocket-friendly to the users. The startup also offers drip irrigation kits to the small-scale farmers. The iHub based startup inserts sensors in the soil which reads how much moisture is there in the soil. The moment the sensor shows that there is a need for water by the soil; irrigation is facilitated to provide the needed water.

Cape

The startup works as an application quality monitoring asset and a WiFI network. The IoT startup has a sensor that monitors WiFI network and application operations through behaving like a real user and giving the real-time reports on the required issues.

Giraffe

The startups help in finding employment for the South African job seekers much quicker through its mobile recruitment platform. The candidates are linked to the opportunities via an SMS. The company showed its worth by bagging $500,000 in the 2016 Seedstars World Summit.
