TechInAfrica – The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) will be working with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to increase Nigeria’s domain adoption.
The Vice President of NiRA, Toba Obaniyi informed last year the .ng domain users reached 180,000.
The plan is to increase more, such as the 30 percent growth by 2024, discussed in a forum organized by the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA)
“A reason why there should be collaboration among stakeholders to scale the growth and also canvass usage by Nigerians,” Obaniyi said.
“It will interest you to know that people still prefer other domain names like .com; .gov; .net, even Nigerians ahead of their own .ng.”
NiRA’s former president Sunday Folayan suggests that government can scale the adoption by ensuring patronage, consistency, and through policies instead of legislation without enforcement.
