Cape Town-based startup Wallettec is a mobile payment integration solution that is present across 14 African countries.
The company began by offering technological solutions for banking institutions. It then pivoted into a PaaS (Payment as a Service) platform that enables retailers to transact with consumers at the Point of Sale through their mobile phones without having to share any personal or payment information. Over the last three years, it shifted into a mobile money provider making mobile money accessible and easy to integrate across multiple platforms.
Successes in mobile money have promoted Walletec to focus solely on sports betting where it believes it hopes to achieve solutions that are seamless, effective, and complementary to the industry. Wallettec is currently accessible in 10 countries offering payment solutions for the sports betting sector. The company distinguishes itself from other payment companies in that it only builds APIs and tools suited for its betting clients.
Wallettec will save bookmakers the hassle and trouble of finding suitable payment partners across different African countries. Therefore it will leverage their African footprint and experience in the industry.
