South African Startup Cue Raises $5 Million to Expand AI Customer-Service Platform

South African customer-service technology company Cue has secured $5 million in fresh funding to accelerate the development and international expansion of its artificial intelligence platform.

The investment round was co-led by Knife Capital and FAM Investments. Cue plans to use the capital to strengthen its AI agents, introduce more advanced voice capabilities, improve security and expand integrations for large enterprise customers.

Founded in 2015, Cue provides businesses with tools for managing customer conversations through WhatsApp, social-media platforms, chatbots and live-chat services. Its technology is currently used by more than 500 companies and brands operating across South Africa and the United Kingdom.

The company’s AI agents are designed to handle routine questions, personalise customer interactions and resolve certain support requests automatically. More complex cases can be transferred to human customer-service representatives.

The latest investment follows Cue’s $2 million funding round in 2024 and comes as companies increasingly look to AI-powered systems to improve response times, manage growing volumes of customer enquiries and reduce pressure on support teams.

Cue will also focus on developing a unified customer-service platform rather than requiring businesses to operate several disconnected support tools. The company believes combining automation, live assistance and enterprise systems in one platform will help organisations deliver more consistent customer experiences across different communication channels.
