Andela Acquires Woven to Power AI-Native Engineering Talent at Scale

Andela Inc., one of the world’s leading platforms for technical talent, has officially announced its acquisition of Woven, a company renowned for its technical assessments that feature real-world engineering scenarios, comprehensive scoring rubrics, and AI-powered evaluation capabilities.

This acquisition significantly propels Andela’s product development and aligns with its vision to deliver AI-native talent and Forward Deployed Engineers to AI labs and enterprises. Woven’s proven assessment technology, robust content, and specialized expertise will now be integrated into Andela’s platform, enhancing its offerings.

Woven’s CEO and founder, Wes Winham Winler, will join Andela to spearhead the development of next-generation assessments aimed at reliably predicting an engineer’s success on the job, particularly in AI-assisted software development and AI system creation.

As enterprises transition from experimenting with AI to deploying it at scale, there’s an increasing need for three distinct types of AI-native engineers:

  1. The Builder: Engineers who transform business requirements into functional components for Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and autonomous agents.
  2. The Integrator: Engineers who connect models, data, and tools into cohesive, multi-step autonomous workflows.
  3. The Scaler: Engineers who ensure AI systems run reliably at scale, focusing on compliance, governance, and risk management.

With Woven’s tools and assessments, Andela will be able to accurately assess and match engineers to these roles, ensuring that enterprises have the right talent for each phase of their AI initiatives.

Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela, commented, “To power the AI ecosystem at scale, the world requires AI-native, enterprise-ready engineering talent in large numbers. By acquiring Woven, Andela is poised to offer the most precise technical assessments available, ensuring that engineers have the AI fluency necessary for real-world job success.”

The acquisition provides Andela with:

  • A comprehensive library of cutting-edge, real-world engineering scenarios tailored to job functions, along with AI-assisted generation of new scenarios.
  • AI-driven scoring capabilities that offer consistent, scalable, and accurate evaluations of performance, bolstered by proven rubrics developed over years of data.
  • The expertise of Woven’s founding team, accelerating Andela’s assessment roadmap.

Barun Singh, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Andela, said, “By incorporating Woven into Andela’s platform, we are leapfrogging the development of world-class assessments that focus on both AI fluency and engineering fundamentals. From day one, we’ll be able to utilize Woven’s assessment scenarios to benchmark skills in our talent network, ensuring that our clients find the ideal candidates for their needs.”

Woven’s technology was built on top of Andela’s previously acquired platform, Qualified, which is a leader in creating assessments. The combination of these two platforms now forms a unified foundation for scalable, AI-powered assessments across various engineering domains.

Woven’s Winler added, “Andela already had an outstanding reputation in the industry, a vast talent network, and a strong focus on upskilling. Together, we are building the most accurate and scalable system to measure real-world engineering performance in the AI age.”

With this acquisition, Andela strengthens its position as a global leader in providing AI-native engineering talent while developing the most reliable and scalable assessment tools to match the rapidly evolving demands of AI-driven industries.
