Chowdeck,an on-demand delivery platform, has partnered with MyCoverGenius to provide personal accident insurance for riders on its platform, according to company statements. The agreement commenced in November 2024 and provides automatic enrollment in a personal accident insurance plan for active Chowdeck riders. The coverage includes accidental medical expenses, temporary disability, and other protections.
Chowdeck operates more than 20,000 riders and serves over two million customers, according to company information. The company launched in October 2021 in Nigeria. MyCoverGenius is an insurance services provider in Nigeria. A survey cited by the companies found that 64% of location-based gig workers in Nigeria reported their income from gig platforms made a meaningful difference to household finances.
The source and methodology of this survey were not specified in company materials. Umar Nasir, Head of Operations at Chowdeck, said the partnership aims to provide riders with coverage for their wellbeing. Adebowale Banjo, CEO at MyCoverGenius, said the partnership extends protection to riders and demonstrates how digital platforms can integrate insurance.
