Kenya Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Transformation with AFD Group Partnership to Enhance Connectivity and Service Delivery

Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, has once again reaffirmed the Kenyan government’s strong commitment to driving the country’s digital transformation. This effort is part of a broader strategy to harness technology for economic growth and improve public service delivery.

During a recent meeting with a high-level delegation from the AFD Group, led by the French Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Arnaud Suquet, Hon. Kabogo underscored the importance of international collaborations in advancing Kenya’s digital agenda. These partnerships, he noted, are pivotal for building a resilient digital infrastructure that can support Kenya’s growing digital economy and enable the provision of inclusive services to all citizens, particularly those in underserved areas.

The discussion primarily focused on the ongoing progress of the AFD Group’s support to the Kenya Connectivity and Digital Transformation Project. The project is part of Kenya’s larger Digital Masterplan 2022–2032, which aims to drive comprehensive digital adoption across the country. The AFD Group, through its institutions—including AFD, Proparco, and Expertise France—is collaborating closely with Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy to implement this master plan.

Key elements of the plan include expanding the national aerial fiber network, which will ensure more widespread access to high-speed internet, and deploying digital hubs across the country to enhance digital literacy and support innovation. In addition, the Digital Masterplan emphasizes the development of interoperable e-government services, which will simplify interactions between citizens and government institutions, making public services more accessible and efficient.

Also present at the meeting were Principal Secretary for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, and AFD Kenya Country Director, Anne-Gaël Chapuis.

Hon. Kabogo expressed optimism that these strategic partnerships will continue to play a significant role in accelerating Kenya’s digital transformation. He highlighted that these efforts are essential in creating a digitally empowered and inclusive society, ensuring that all citizens—regardless of their background or location—can fully participate in and benefit from the opportunities presented by the digital economy. This alignment of public and private sector efforts is crucial for Kenya’s success in becoming a leading digital economy in Africa.
