New tool from EV24.africa helps drivers in all 54 African countries compare electric vehicle savings using localized fuel and electricity data
EV24.africa has launched SaveFuel.Africa, the first calculator designed specifically for African drivers to compare the cost of electric vehicles with petrol and diesel cars using country-specific data across all 54 African countries. The free online tool allows users to enter their country, annual kilometers driven and current vehicle type to estimate how much they could save by switching to electric. Projections are available over 1, 5 and 10 years, giving drivers a clearer picture of the long-term financial benefits of EV ownership in their local market.
Unlike generic EV calculators built for Europe or North America, SaveFuel.Africa is tailored to African realities. It uses localized fuel prices and electricity tariffs to provide more relevant savings estimates based on where people actually live and drive.
According to the platform, African EV drivers can save an average of $1,200 per year and spend up to 80% less per kilometer than petrol or diesel vehicle owners.
Built for Africa’s diverse markets
Fuel prices, electricity costs and vehicle economics vary widely across Africa. A driver in Morocco faces different conditions than a driver in Nigeria, Kenya or South Africa. In Ethiopia, where petrol vehicle imports are banned, the economics of switching to electric are different again.
SaveFuel.Africa was created to reflect those differences and give users a practical way to understand EV costs in their own country.
What the calculator measures
SaveFuel.Africa factors in:
- Energy costs: electricity versus petrol or diesel spending per kilometer
- Maintenance savings: reduced servicing needs, including no oil changes, exhaust repairs or transmission servicing
- Long-term projections: estimated savings over 1, 5 and 10 years
The platform estimates that maintenance savings alone can reach $400 to $600 per 10,000 kilometers compared with internal combustion engine vehicles.
Country-based insights
The tool highlights how savings can differ by market. For example, in Morocco, where petrol costs around $1.32 per liter and electricity averages $0.119 per kWh, estimated annual savings range from $1,200 to $1,800. In Kenya and South Africa, EV drivers can also achieve substantial savings depending on mileage and charging costs.
In addition to the calculator, users can contact EV24.africa directly through the platform for support in finding electric vehicles or arranging charger installation.
Part of the Africar Group ecosystem
SaveFuel.Africa is powered by EV24.africa, the pan-African EV marketplace launched in 2025. The company says it has already delivered vehicles to more than 10 countries and received over 350 inquiries from more than 30 nations within its first three months.
The tool joins Africar Group’s wider mobility ecosystem, which includes AUTO24.africa for certified used cars and Koto.africa for new car pricing and comparison.
