10 Startups that Contribute Significantly to Uganda’s Economy

Uganda has provided a friendly environment for business growth considering the political stability in the country. It is expected that with time, as innovations continue to be seen from scholars, other startups will be established. Here are ten startups that we analyzed and found out they contribute to economic development in Uganda.

Fenix International

Fenix International considered the need of reducing the use of fossil fuels which are non-renewable and contribute to pollution. Having partnered with MTN group in Uganda, the company provides solar power to various households who pay $0.35 daily for radios, lights, solar panels, and LCD TVs

Tugende

Tugende considered the need of offering credit services to drivers to acquire motorcycles and the loan is payable for 18 months. Upon repayment, the ownership of the motorcycle is fully transferred to the drivers. The company considered that the taxi and motorcycle drivers earn little out of rental motors hardly save a tangible amount of money.

Honexus

Honexus is a healthcare platform that keeps various hospital records and reports, therefore, enabling NGO to easily access data from various hospitals by using the software. Various researchers and physicians are integrated into the system hence information is reliable.

SafeBoda

SafeBoda is an app that allows one to conveniently get a motorcyclist within  Kampala town for a trip. In East Africa, boda boda is the common name for a taxi or motorcycle driver. In Kampala, approximately $1 million is transacted on boda boda daily and this has impact on the economy.

Kola Studios

Kola Studios is a gaming studio that utilizes the local games and uploads them into a local card game for download and locals within East Africa have downloaded these applications.

 

 

Inforex Africa

From its name, Inforex Africa is a company that deals in forex trading. The company developed an application that enables users to access real-time exchange rates and allows third-party companies to access the information.

ENVenture

ENVenture has an application that can operate on 2G network without the need of WiFi or computers. The app gives information to entrepreneurs in remote areas and allows them to input sales and capture inventories. Moreover, the entrepreneurs can track sales volume using the application.

FEWAMU ASSOCIATION

FEWAMU ASSOCIATION is a Christian charity organization that works together to curb the challenge of rising rates of unemployment in Uganda.  The organization seeks for funds from well-wishers to support various ideas like piggery project since the organization has land and other resources but insufficient capital.

Asaak

Asaak is a microfinance organization that provides world-class financial services using an application.The company has integrated credit system that is has a complex algorithm and they use a community-based approach to build trust with their customers.

Stempower

Stempower motivates young women to pursue higher education and keep the societies updated with modern trends in education. Their main emphasis is for women to pursue engineering, Mathematics, technology, and Sciences.
