Egyptian Clean Energy Startup NoorNation Raises $1.05 Million to Expand Solar Irrigation Solutions

Egyptian clean energy startup NoorNation has secured $1.05 million in seed funding to expand its solar-powered irrigation solutions and provide affordable renewable energy services to agricultural businesses and rural communities.

The funding round attracted investment from Egyptian agribusiness company Linah Farms, climate-focused investor Catalyst Fund, and Saudi Arabia-based KBW Ventures, led by Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed.

Founded in 2021 by Ragy Ramadan and Mohamed Khaled, NoorNation develops decentralised renewable energy and water solutions designed to address electricity and irrigation challenges in underserved communities across Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The company operates a business model that enables farmers to access solar-powered irrigation without the high initial costs traditionally associated with installing renewable energy infrastructure.

Through its Solar Irrigation-as-a-Service (SIaaS) offering, farmers can pay for solar-powered irrigation on an hourly or pay-as-you-go basis, reducing their dependence on diesel-powered pumping systems.

NoorNation also developed LifeBox, an integrated solar-powered system that provides electricity and water for irrigation, desalination, and other essential applications in locations with limited infrastructure.

One of its investors, Linah Farms, previously operated as a customer before becoming a shareholder following the deployment of NoorNation’s renewable energy systems across several facilities.

These installations include solar irrigation infrastructure at farms in Bahariya Oasis, solar and battery systems at an agricultural school, and renewable energy equipment at Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm El Sheikh.

According to founder Ragy Ramadan, the Bahariya irrigation installation has generated more than $58,000 in diesel savings, while the resort project has reduced electricity costs by over $43,000.

The partnership has also expanded to include five additional solar projects in Bahariya and West Minya, with a combined capacity of approximately 1.13 megawatt-peak.

Including previous installations, the projects delivered or under development for Linah Group represent approximately 1.71 megawatt-peak in solar capacity.

NoorNation intends to use the new investment to increase manufacturing capacity, accelerate technology deployment, enter additional markets, and extend its pay-per-use services to more farmers.

The funding strengthens the company’s efforts to make clean energy more accessible while supporting sustainable agricultural production and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
