Omar Selim now general manager for Swvl Egypt

Swvl is the leading digitized public transportation solutions. The startup just appointed a new General Manager for Egypt. Omar Selim is the new GM and comes with an executive background in Jumia Executive and Noon.

He will oversee Swvl’s countrywide operations. According to Menabytes, the role was previously held in interim by Muhammad Ahmad, who currently runs Global Expansion. Omar’s resume includes former roles as Vice President for Noon Saudi & North Africa where he oversaw e-commerce operations. He also served as the MD for Jumia Egypt and led global expansions for Amazon.

He has experience in the telecommunication sector working for companies like Orange (Egypt) and Motorola (United States).

Swvl has it’s headquarters in Dubai and has raised over $100  million to date. $20 million of this was sealed early this year. As one of the best-funded startups in Africa, Swvl currently runs bus services in Pakistan and Kenya, offering public transport commuting in a decent environment.
