Starlink to Double Subscription Rates in Nigeria Starting January 2025

Starlink, the satellite internet provider, has notified its Nigerian users of an upcoming price increase for monthly subscriptions, effective January 27, 2025. New customers will be charged the updated rates immediately, while current subscribers will encounter the adjustments in their next billing cycle.

Starlink, in an email to its users, stated, “We are revising our monthly subscription rates to further enhance the Starlink network and ensure reliable, top-quality service in Nigeria. This adjustment reflects our dedication to investing in the infrastructure required to elevate your Starlink experience.”

Nigerian telecom operators have long advocated for tariff hikes but have struggled to secure approval from the NCC.

The updated pricing will see the lowest subscription tier jump from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 per month, while the mobile global roaming service will now cost ₦717,000 monthly. This marks Starlink’s second attempt to raise prices in Nigeria, following the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) rejection of a prior increase in October due to the company’s failure to obtain required regulatory approval.

The NCC is expected to approve a tariff hike in early 2025, as first reported by TechCabal. Starlink’s email to users indicates the company is positioning itself to align with these anticipated regulatory adjustments.

This development could mark a significant shift in pricing strategies within Nigeria’s evolving internet market, influencing both consumers and the competitive dynamics of satellite and telecom services.
