Sherpa Ventures has publicly unveiled its debut fund dedicated to investment in pre-seed tech startups. The fund is led by renowned investment icon Aaron Fu, ex-IROKO executive Nikhil Patel, and Alastair Curtis who formerly worked at Uber and run by top operators in Africa’s startup ecosystem. All three have prior experience investing and supporting startups within the industry building a digital infrastructure that helps businesses and livelihoods thrive.
During the launch, Nikhael Patel revealed their wealth of networks and capital backing partners that includes founders of top-performing growth-stage startups such as SafeBoda, Lori, and Twiga.
Aaron Fu describes the Sherpa Fund as a “supportive and collaborative community.”
Sherpa has thus far invested in two startups Boost which is an MSME asset-light distribution and working platform, present in Ghana and South Africa. They have also invested in OnePipe a unified API aggregation platform targeting financial services in large institutions.
Sherpa’s Basecamp Fund will invest between US$25,000 to US$50,000 in startups that usually raise less than US$500,000 and work closely for the next 6 to 9 months before providing follow on capital.
