African Startups Gain Momentum as AI and Climate-Tech Investments Rise

Africa’s technology ecosystem is receiving fresh attention as new investments target artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and climate innovation.

In South Africa, 22 On Sloane has unveiled an AI-focused platform alongside a $63 million startup fund aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and expanding opportunities for emerging technology companies. The initiative is expected to provide founders with greater access to innovation tools, resources, and investment opportunities as demand grows for AI-driven solutions across the continent.

The move highlights the increasing role of artificial intelligence in Africa’s startup landscape, with entrepreneurs developing solutions across sectors including financial services, healthcare, agriculture, and enterprise technology.

Meanwhile, climate-tech company Biochar Industrial has raised $1.5 million in pre-seed funding to scale its industrial carbon removal operations in Africa. The company is focused on producing biochar, a carbon-rich material created from biomass through a process known as pyrolysis, which can help capture and store carbon.

The funding will support efforts to expand the company’s operations and develop infrastructure for carbon removal projects. With Africa generating significant amounts of agricultural and organic waste, biochar companies are exploring ways to transform these resources into climate solutions while creating new economic opportunities.

The two developments reflect a broader shift in Africa’s startup ecosystem, where investors are increasingly backing businesses focused on advanced technology, sustainability, and solutions with global market potential.
