As part of ongoing efforts to advance the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP) initiative, Interswitch’s Digital Health Platform (DHP) has entered into a strategic partnership with Patients Know Best (PKB), a leading provider of personal health record (PHR) solutions, to strengthen digital healthcare infrastructure in Lagos State.
This partnership marks a pivotal step forward in the development of digital healthcare systems in Lagos. By integrating PKB’s state-of-the-art PHR system with Interswitch’s DHP, the collaboration will establish a robust Health Information Exchange (HIE) system. This integration supports digital transformation in healthcare while fully aligning with global Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standards.
The joint initiative will result in a secure, patient-centric digital health record system, enabling healthcare providers across Lagos State to seamlessly access and share patient information. This technological advancement is poised to enhance care coordination, improve health outcomes, and drive greater efficiency in healthcare service delivery throughout the state.
Olufemi Olapegba, Managing Director for Digital Health Platforms at Interswitch, commented on the collaboration, stating:
“Interswitch’s partnership with PKB underscores our larger mission of driving digital transformation across vital sectors in Nigeria, particularly healthcare. By harnessing advanced technology to streamline the exchange of healthcare information, we are creating an integrated platform that elevates service delivery, enhances patient outcomes, and redefines access to healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.”
Mohammad Al-Ubaydli, Chief Executive Officer of Patients Know Best, added:
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Interswitch to bring a groundbreaking health information system to Lagos. Our secure, patient-focused platform empowers individuals with increased control over their health data, while also equipping healthcare providers with real-time access to essential patient information. This partnership lays the foundation for a more efficient, interconnected, and responsive healthcare ecosystem.”
By enabling secure and efficient data sharing, the integrated platform will grant healthcare providers real-time access to comprehensive patient records, fostering informed decision-making and improved care coordination. In parallel, patients will gain unprecedented control over their personal health data, allowing them to take an active role in their health management and make more informed choices about their care.
Healthcare professionals will also benefit from streamlined clinical workflows, which will help reduce administrative burdens and free up more time for direct patient care. The integration of services across Lagos State’s healthcare network will foster a more unified and efficient healthcare system, eliminating traditional silos among various healthcare facilities and specialists.
Moreover, the platform’s adherence to international healthcare data standards ensures compliance with global best practices for data security and health information management.
As digital healthcare continues to evolve, this collaboration between Interswitch and Patients Know Best marks a significant stride toward a more technologically advanced healthcare system in Lagos. By embracing innovation to improve health information exchange, the partnership is laying the foundation for a connected, data-driven healthcare ecosystem focused on efficiency, security, and better patient outcomes.
Together, Interswitch and PKB are setting a new benchmark for healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
