Early-stage African startups can now apply for the SiGMA Africa Startup Pitch, which will give selected companies an opportunity to present their businesses to venture capital investors, executives and other industry participants in Cape Town.
The competition forms part of the wider SiGMA Africa Summit and is intended to showcase promising companies operating in technology sectors connected to gaming, payments, fintech and digital services
More than 100 startups are expected to participate in the Startup Village component of the event.
From that group, six companies will be selected to advance to the live pitch competition, where founders will present their businesses before investors and other industry stakeholders.
The African edition of the competition is scheduled to take place in Cape Town on February 17, 2027.
Applications will remain open until January 6.
The shortlist is expected to be announced later in January, while selected companies will subsequently be required to submit their pitch decks before the final competition.
The programme is aimed particularly at early-stage businesses working in areas such as gaming technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, blockchain, payments, affiliate technology, esports and related digital sectors.
Companies are generally expected to be operating between seed and Series A, although final selection will depend on the quality of each startup and its relevance to the summit’s audience.
For participating businesses, the main attraction is exposure to investors and potential commercial partners rather than simply the opportunity to compete on stage.
The Startup Village gives founders a physical presence at the event, while the six finalists receive additional visibility through the live pitch competition.
The programme does not guarantee that participating companies will secure investment.
Any funding would ultimately depend on negotiations between founders and interested investors.
For African startups in relevant sectors, however, the competition provides a route into an international network of gaming, fintech and technology investors.
It also gives founders an opportunity to present their companies on the continent rather than travelling to Europe or the Middle East to participate in similar investor-facing technology competitions.
