Tokyo State Lenders Back Peach Cars in $3.7M Debt Facility for East Africa Expansion

Kenyan used-car marketplace Peach Cars has secured ÂĄ600 million in debt financing from Japan Finance Corporation and Shoko Chukin Bank, giving the company fresh capital to expand its operations in East Africa. The business is operated by Tokyo-based Cordia Directions, which has been building a technology-led marketplace designed to make used-car transactions in Kenya more transparent and reliable.

The financing, reported at approximately $3.7 million using the exchange rate cited by Launch Base Africa, will support the expansion of Peach Cars’ vehicle inspection locations, improvements to its appraisal technology and the development of vehicle-financing products for customers.

Peach Cars was launched in 2020 and provides services including vehicle inspection, pricing, payments and ownership support. Cordia previously attracted investment from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, which said its backing was intended to support the Japanese startup’s expansion of its used-car marketplace business in Kenya.

The latest debt financing follows Peach Cars’ roughly $11 million Series A round in 2025 and strengthens the company’s push to build a more structured alternative to Kenya’s traditionally fragmented used-car market
