Absa Group is one of the largest financial service providers across Africa. The bank has launched a cloud services incubator alongside Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its cloud computing skills across the continent.

Absa is one of the continent’s largest adopters of cloud computing services promoting cloud fluency in broader efforts to promote machine learning, innovation, and experimentation while the organization enhances its customer banking experience.

Once they migrate to the cloud companies eliminate the risk of building expenses and managing on-site data centers. This helps reduce infrastructure costs and help scale up and down rather than costly on-premise capacity.

Andrew Baker, the Chief Technology Officer at Absa Group pointed out how the cloud is now the “norm for large companies” helping in the storage of data “cost-efficiently” when compared to physical data centers.

Absa’s internal cloud incubator programme hopes to participate in  AWS’s Skills Guild initiative – a cloud skills training programme that is comprehensive and helps large enterprise organizations accelerate their cloud journey adoption. The cloud incubator initiative will give over 1500 staff using Absa’s Africa operations with advanced cloud computing skills.
