Africa e-commerce giant Jumia Standard Chartered, Samsung, and others for Black Friday during Covid-19

Jumia Nigeria released a statement announcing its partnership with Samsung and Standard Chartered, and several other brands to see them through the  2020 Black Friday campaign. It will run from the 6th of November to the 30th. Other parties involved are Unilever, Defacto, Reckitt Benckiser, Stanbic IBTC, Umidigi,  Pernod Ricard, Michelin, and others.

Massimiliano Spalazzi, CEO Jumia Nigeria, said 2020 Black Friday will support the brands across the country as well as local SMEs affected by Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. In an excerpt from his statement, he states that “Aside businesses, the consumers too were affected by the lockdown, as some lost their income, others prioritized only essential products, and the purchasing power of many was cut by half. To support these consumers, we have democratized the prices of products on our marketplace by onboarding more competitive sellers; negotiated thousands of exciting deals with as many partners as possible to enable consumers to buy more with less..”

Dayo Aderugbo, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing expressed optimism by pointing out, “the immense reward opportunities” offered in a partnership with brands like Jumia.

Mr. Caden Yu, Samsung Nigeria M.D described the new partnership as an opportunity for the company to “ to spread love and happiness.”
