Agriculture Startup Crop2Cash Wins Seedstars Lagos 2019

TechInAfrica — An agritech solution provider for small farm holders, Crop2Cash, has won the Lagos edition of Seedstars pitch event this year.

At the Lagos event, Doctoora, a medical startup, and Traders of Africa, a platform that enables intra-Africa trade, finished second and third respectively.

According to Alessia Balducci, General Manager of Seedstars Nigeria, the Lagos competition is the most competitive in Africa. A total of 11 startups pitched at the event, which was held in the newly launched Seedspace GrowthLabs in Lagos.

The Seedstars Lagos event was held at the recently created Seedspace GrowthLabs.

Crop2Cash has built a number of solutions for farmers. It developed a digital banking service that allows farmers to operate bank accounts with USSD codes and a mobile app. Its platform also makes it easy for farmers to manage their supply chain and relations with suppliers.

Founded in 2018 by Michael Ognudare, Emem Essien, and Seyi Alabi, Crop2Cash will represent Nigeria at the Seedstars Africa Summit which holds in South Africa in December.

If Crop2Cash is successful at the Africa regional event, the company will as well go on to pitch at the Seedstars Global Summit and gain the opportunity to win up to $1 million equity investment as well as other prizes. The Seedstars Global Summit will be staged in Switzerland in April 2020.

Crop2Cash also has the chance to join less than 20 startups in the exclusive Seedstars Growth Program. This contains a 14-weeks accelerator program that promises a $50,000 investment and an opportunity for more funding in the future.

Traders of Africa: An e-commerce marketplace focused on driving intra-African trade as well as trade between Africa and the world through technology.

Doctoora: A platform to find health professionals.

One Kiosk Africa: An e-commerce startup that is working with a network of stores to deliver orders.

Publiseer: A digital publishing platform for music and books.

Edusko: An edtech solution for the financially handicapped.

Alerzo: An e-commerce startup that wants to digitize Africa’s informal B2B retail supply chain.

Seedstars is the world’s largest startup competition for innovators from emerging markets. The competition focuses on startups with innovations that give impacts. In 2019, Seedstars regional events will be held in over 80 cities globally.
