Cape Town-based Fomo is a local food app connecting users with restaurant specials and events, successfully recording over 50,000 downloads in five months on account of a proven business model and offering, winning over new customers.

Fomo has partnered with V&A Waterfront to promote restaurants and events taking place at this shopping area in a push to support restaurants this summer. V&A Waterfront is a renowned shopping and lifestyle destination and the new partnership is a huge boost in Fomo’s growth. All restaurants and events will be listed in Fomo’s innovative and easy-to-use platform.

Fomo provides users with contact details and operating hours on each listing. Users can also book a table with this app and rate the restaurant of special on trial. Users can also contact the restaurant for more feedback.  People can also contact the restaurants for feedback through direct links provided in the app. An in-app feature can integrate with Google Maps for directions to the restaurant or book Ubers. Restaurants can easily be listed on the platform at R499 per month.

The app’s success is attributed to its social impact value on the local hospitality industry. Covid-19 has further decimated industry and financially compromised most restaurants that remain standing today.

Fomo was formed by Ryan Marx and Jax Du Plessis and is part of local business builder Harken Holdings that owns brands like MoneyPanda. Users can also access contact details and the operating hours for nearby restaurants provided through geolocation.
