Maersk Launches High-Tech Warehousing Facility in Cameroon

Share

Global logistics company Maersk has opened an advanced warehousing and distribution (W&D) facility in Douala, Cameroon. The technology-driven facility provides efficient cargo handling in one of Central Africa’s most vital ports.

Douala serves as a major gateway to surrounding markets, making it an ideal logistics base. With demand growing from Cameroon’s rising middle class and neighbouring countries, Douala Port handles over 70% of national imports.

Recognising a gap in modern warehousing availability, Maersk strategically invested in a 16,000 sq. meter facility equipped with a state-of-the-art warehouse management system (WMS). This bridges unmet demand while offering customers cost-effective, optimised logistics.

The WMS provides real-time cargo visibility through features like batch and serial number tracking. By reducing errors and waste, Maersk aims to improve customer experience significantly. Value-added services like packing and palletising further enhance offerings.

Sustainability underpins the facility’s design, supporting Maersk’s net zero emissions goal. Solar energy powers portions of lighting and forklift charging. Additional panels will expand renewable power over time.

For customers, combining warehousing with Maersk’s integrated shipping, customs brokerage, and transport facilitates end-to-end supply chain control. This holistic approach boosts efficiency and resilience while consolidating key services.

Strategically situated, digitally enabled and sustainability-oriented, the new Douala facility represents a leap forward for regional logistics. Maersk is positioned to meet escalating demand and drive sector innovation.

The launch highlights Cameroon’s significance as a strategic trade hub. With its coastal access and extensive inland reach, the country holds major promise as a fulfilment center and gateway to Central Africa.

Modern, efficient infrastructure and services will be crucial to unlocking this potential. Maersk’s warehousing investment reflects international firms’ growing confidence in Cameroon and the wider region.
