British blockchain startup Electroneum is a mobile-phone-based crypto app with over 4.1 million registered users. Its in-app electricity top-ups are now live in the following West African countries; Gambia, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Mali.

Electricity and mobile airtime is considered a daily essential worldwide that enables people to send back airtime and electricty refils using Electroneum’s app – saving both time and costs associated with transport. People working away from home can remit back funds at fees of 5-10% of the amount.

In several developing countries, airtime and data can act as a medium of exchange. In July, Electroneum is the first cryptocurrency to allow electricity top-ups through the ETN app. No other crypto project has this function to date. As of 25th November 2020, Electronuem became the largest crypto startup offering mobile airtime top-ups across 163 countries.
