Peter Ndegwa Appointed as the New CEO of Safaricom

TechInAfrica – Safaricom has appointed Peter Ndegwa as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) which will be effective on April 1st, 2020. Ndegwa takes over the new position following the previous CEO, Bob Collymore’s death in July this year. Michael Joseph has been filling up the temporal position until the new CEO is decided and working effectively.

Commenting on the appointment of Ndegwa as the new CEO, Safaricom states on reads: ”Peter brings a wealth of experience in General Management, Commercial and Business Strategy, Sales and Finance Operations, having spent over 25 years in various roles within the Financial Services and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors in Africa and Europe.”

Ndegwa currently is the Managing Director of Diageo Continental Europe. Diageo PLC has operations in 50 countries in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the North Africa region. Before joining the company, he previously had worked as CEO in Guinness Nigeria PLC and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC for seven years. He had turned these two companies to deliver a double-digit growth by reorganizing them, introducing new brands, as well as investing in the people.

Before working for the two companies, he had also previously worked for eight years at Nairobi-based EABL played a range of senior Executive Director role. In addition, he had experience serving as the CFO, Group Strategy Director, Sales Director, and Executive Director on the EABL Board.
