Sophia the Robot Confirmed to be the Guest at the Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 in Uganda

TechInAfrica – The Africa Blockchain Conference 2019 is scheduled to take place for two days starting from tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. As confirmed by Kwame Rugunda, the Chairman of the Blockchain Association of Uganda, Sophia the Robot will be the honorable guest of the event. The event will kick off at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, Uganda under the theme “Africa 4.0: Preparing Africa for the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).

The African Blockchain Conference 2019 will bring together experts, panelists, and industry leaders to sit together and discuss a range of topics, including Africa’s readiness for the 4th Industrial Revolution, fintech, blockchain, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, and other emerging technologies.

Coming as the special guest of the event, Sophia is an AI robot developed by a humanoid robotics company, Hanson Robotics which is based in Hong Kong. She was first activated in 2016 and is a Saudi Arabian citizen. Her citizenship status is the first in the world achieved by a robot.

Sophia has made her appearances in public several times, including at South by Southwest Festival—which was her first public appearance—on TV shows and interviews, even on YouTube. She even has been on international media headlines multiple times.

Sophia uses Artificial Intelligence (AI), visual data processing, facial and voice recognition. She can make human gestures and show more than 50 different facial expressions. In additions, she is able to answer certain questions and make simple conversations on predefined topics.

Some reports say that Sophia’s intelligence is designed to keep improving over time. As she is programmed to analyze conversations and extract data, her responses will also be improved in the future.
