Tanta Secure Limited, Protecting Electronic Devices of Nigeria

Share

TechInAfrica – Cybercrime is not a modest façade; it’s totally real and happening all across the globe even as you read this sentence. Generally targeting oblivious users of devices connected to the internet, cyber criminals intentionally harm a person’s mental (sometimes even physical) and financial status using the means of modern telecommunication. Now that more and more people are connected to the Internet via laptops, smartphones and tablets, cybercrime is a bigger threat than even before. Tanta Secure Limited, a Lagos-based device protection company, introduced the first device and electronics protection plan in Nigeria.

Electronics in this context refer to smartphones, tablets, laptops, and even home appliances powered by Internet of Things (IoT) implementation.

Sam Igwe Oko, Managing Director of Tanta Secure, confessed that technology is at its pinnacle of growth—with continuous advancements towards the scene, more and more people have adapted smartphones, tablets, or laptops to be a significant part of their everyday lives.

In addition, Oko also spoke:

On the other hand, accidents, drops, spill, malfunctions and everyday mishaps are completely unavoidable, even to the most careful users. 99 per cent of device owners has experienced device breakdown, malfunctions or accidental damages. On top of that, expensive repair cost mostly leads to people ignoring their devices’ defective condition and deciding to accept the fact that it’s broken. This is where Tanta Secure Limited comes in.

“We know that accidents or unexpected damages are unavoidable and could happen at any time, we know how important these items are to end-users. That is why we have designed this solution having in mind the eventualities that might occur. Ours is to ensure that the end-users are protected by assisting them to fix their devices,” Oko had added, underlining the main goal of Tanta Secure Limited.

Furthermore, Tanta’s services also offer a money-back guarantee if nothing happens to their device for a certain period of time. This notion opposes the general idea of most conventional insurances—where you pay to be covered regardless of what happens.

A lack of technical expertise in the open market of the region (as well as original equipment manufacturers) leads malicious people to develop their own fake parts to be sold to unsuspecting potential customers. In return, their respective devices would be damaged; because the parts themselves aren’t even fully compatible to begin with. This issue would also be the main concern of Tanta Secure’s main objective and target for its days ahead.

John Mark Ossai, Vice-Chairman of Tanta Secure, regards this idea as highly unfortunate as there are approximately 4,000 (and counting) unlicensed technicians across Lagos. Moreover, potential customers can’t identify which one is licensed and which one isn’t—the only way to know is to take a good look at their license. The abundance of illegal, unlicensed technicians across the region pose a substantial risk that could harm the overall lifespan of users’ devices.

Additionally, Ossai also asserted that most unlicensed technicians only aim to make your device work again whilst ignoring all the protocols and technical procedures; simply because they want to make a fortune doing so. Contrary to their beliefs, in the tech scene, everything needs to be procedural and systematical so that risk of failure and malfunction is significantly less than imminent. Like a clock, each component relies on other components to function properly. Tanta Secure Limited aims to promote that true nature of technology by providing qualified technicians handle users’ devices.

Not only in Lagos, but unlicensed technicians have been an issue across the world—particularly those of developing countries. They blend in so much that even the most proficient of experts couldn’t distinguish who’s licensed and who’s not.
