Wellington Makamura Appointed as the Regional CEO of Liquid Telecom for Southern Africa

TechInAfrica – Liquid Telecom has announced the appointment of Wellington Makamure as its new Regional CEO for Southern Africa. He will be given the responsibility to lead four key markets in the region.

The appointment of Makamure, furthermore also enables him to lead the strategic and operational management of the company’s wholesale, enterprise, and retail business in the four key markets of the region, including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Botswana.

Speaking of the new position Makamure possesses, it is basically a new position in Liquid Telecom and was formed as a part of the group’s broader digital transformation strategy. Through this newly formed position, the company aims to improve customer experience and build a long-term business sustainability.

Makamure has been joining with Liquid Telkom for over 9 years and is experienced in the planning, managing, and building network and business for the Liquid Telecom in Zimbabwe. Through his dedicated leadership for over the years, Liquid Telecom Zimbabwe has become the leading company in the telecoms market of Zimbabwe. Furthermore, the company was the first to introduce Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) in 2013 where it connected over 39,000 homes to date and was also the first Internet Access Provider (IAP) in the country to introduce Long Term Evolution (LTE).

The Group Chief Operating Officer of Liquid Telecom, Ahmad Mokhles delivered his warm welcome for the appointment of Makamure as the new Regional CEO for Liquid Telecom Southern Africa. He stated: “We’re delighted to announce Wellington Makamure as our first Regional CEO of Southern Africa. The first centimeter of Liquid Telecom’s network was laid in Zimbabwe and Wellington has played an important role in establishing the country as a center of excellence that can serve as an inspiration to our other businesses throughout the Southern African region.”

His dedication to Liquid Telecom has gained recognition from his colleagues. Only recently, he has received an award as the Manager of the year from National Leadership Excellence Award at the Zimbabwe Institute of Management Awards. Furthermore, he also has received a National Business Leadership Award from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC).

Having asked about his appointment, Makamure commented: “This appointment is because of my team’s dedication and hard work. I am humbled and honored to be recognized in this way and understand the significance of this new role and how it is aligned with the strategic thrust and growth of the business. I look forward to building a stronger and cohesive team in the region so as to achieve our key objectives and ensure that we meet our vision of building Africa’s digital future.”
