The MTN Business App Academy began this year to mentor and upskill new talent targeting a future in ICT. Aspiring developers have the chance to take part in an online 6-week coding programme after which they take part in a 72-hour hackathon in September.
This year, EasyEquities, emerged the winner of the ninth annual edition of the MTN Business App, leading across 15 different categories. EasyEquities, helps its existing and new users remain on top of their investment portfolios. Other services offered are detailed accounting overviews and personalized reporting.
The app took the 5th spot in the Best Consumer Solution category, and users walked away with a grand prize of R200,000’s worth of an international trip to a tech-related destination.

Augmented Reality game where characters appear, cast spells, and attack other characters; to solve a puzzle.
BirdPro: Most Innovative Solution
App targeting South African birdwatchers while giving users the most sophisticated identification tool in the market.
GreenFingers Mobile: Best Agricultural Solution
The app replaces manual agroforestry management systems with digitized management and financing of smallholder farmers.
Xitsonga Dictionary: Best Educational Solution
Enables users to translate thousands of words from Xitsonga to English in a fun yet engaging way.
