TechInPacific – ENGIE subsidiary, Fenix International has collaborated with Vodacom and Vodafone M-Pesa SA to expand its market in Mozambique, expecting to reach 200,000 households with solar off-grid energy as well as inclusive financial services.

Mozambique will be its next market and its latest expansion by far after Uganda, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, and Nigeria. The new operational office will be headquartered in Kampala and the fourth new market opened within the past year.

Speaking for the launching, Luke Hodgkinson, Managing Director of Fenix Mozambique commented:

“Mozambique has set an ambitious target with their ProEnergia initiative to reach 100% of the population with electricity by 2030. The country represents an optimal market for off-grid solar products, with only 27% of households currently connected to electricity and a highly distributed population. Fenix’s operations here will focus on reaching those most in need of energy access, particularly districts in the North and people who are using expensive, polluting, and dangerous methods such as kerosene and candles to light their homes.”

The solar home system offers its customers with clean energy to power their LED lights, charge phones, run radios, TVs, hair clippers, speakers, and et cetera. The latest product of Fenix—Fenix Power—enables the company to improve customer experience and eliminate technical issues remotely.

In order to execute the plan, Fenix International has partnered with Vodacom and Vodafone M-Pesa SA to address the challenges in distribution, connectivity, as well as mobile payments. With these partnerships, hopefully, it will help to provide access to affordable energy products for underserved communities in Mozambique.

Once these foundations have been established, the possibilities to bring other life-changing products, from household appliances to crop insurance, are truly endless,” added Hodgkinson.

Commenting on the partnership with Fenix International, The Managing Director of Vodafone M-Pesa SA, Gulamo Nabi said:

Vodafone M-Pesa SA is excited to work with Fenix to access these areas and provide the easy, fast and secure payment platform for customers to light up their homes with clean, affordable energy. This is totally aligned with our mission to create mobile solutions to change our customers lives.”
