TechInAfrica – A coffee park is underway in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, after Ethiopia government disclosed their plan on promoting the country’s local coffee products for global market, by forming partnership with Korean government to construct a $50 Million worth coffee park. Apart from introducing the coffee to the global audience, Ethiopian government wanted to boost the coffee’s presence.

The park itself will be built on 30 hectares of land in Addis Ababa, a strategic place for such sightings, and especially for the tourism. The park would have a coffee museum, a coffee market center, and many other facilities, and it’s targeted to be ready for business 3 years from now.

The push for globalized local coffee products can be seen from ECTA’s effort last week, launching an initiative named ‘Ethiopian Coffee’, meant to open the pathway of the product into international market. As stated by the market information and control director at the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA), Hyiru Nuru, to Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), the park will “play an important role towards promoting Ethiopia’s coffee to the international community.”

The coffee agency noted that the initiative would raise the coffee’s international presence and Ethiopia’s image of the major coffee varieties, such as Yirgacheffe, Harrar, and Sidamo, which is termed as ‘weak’.

U.S. Department of Agriculture predicted the country’s coffee export for this year and 2020 would hit a high record of 4 million 60 kg bags of coffee, while the production is expected to reach 7.35 million tones, which is a 1,4% increase from the 2018/2019 period.

Adugna Debella, ECTA’s Director-General also stressed that the development of this initiative would help the country to determine and negotiate the pricing of the coffee in the global market.
