Social Media Power Reveals Top African Sport Stars and Entertainers of 2017

Social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook act as communication tools. Many celebrities update their fans on these platforms. In 2017, the report released by African Social Media Power indicated that Mohamed Salah and rapper Akon are social media icons. Mohamed Salah, an Egyptian striker, and Akon from Senegal enjoy the highest number of followers on Social media.

The report released on January 26, 2018, further stated that combined followers for Power 50 sums to approximately 400 million people. The number doubles Nigeria’s population, the most populated country in Africa. The followers also amount to over half of the European population.

The report stated that they committed their level best to gather top African entertainers and sport stars. They only used Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. During the release, the chief strategist at CampsBay Media, Lolade Adewuyi recommended for the annual release of the report. Additionally, Adewuyi said that the annual report would help the entertainers and sports stars to know their growing impact. Besides, it would assist market planners in gauging the influence of these celebrities.

The top 50 African Social Media power report had four comedians, 14 singers, two music DJs/producers, eight footballers, nine rappers and 13 actors and actresses. The report is available here

Adewuyi also stated that the social media platforms help in indicating the influence of people. They selected various personalities from African states. Furthermore, the report showed top 10 list had Akon, Salah, Didier Drogba (footballer), Gad el Maleh (comedian from Morocco), Trevor Noah (Comedian and TV host from South Africa), Samuel Eto’o (footballer from Cameroon), Jamel Debbouze (another actor from Morocco), Davido (Nigerian singer) and Charlize Theron (actress from South Africa)
