South African Agri-Tech Entrepreneurs Invited to Join the Winetech Pitching Den and a Total of R8.5 Million in Investment Funding

TechInAfrica – The deadline for the Winetech Pitching Den entries has been extended to 28 June 2019. The competition allows South African entrepreneurs to demonstrate their agritech innovations. Additionally, they will also have the opportunity to go through the Africa Cup with a total prize of R8.5 million in investment funding.

The Winetech Pitching Den is an initiative sponsored by Winetech, aiming at attracting agri-tech startups to develop their innovative solutions to challenging issues facing wine producers. The winners will have a chance to receive exposure to over 650 representatives from the South Africa wine industry as well as investment opportunities, and incubation program to bring their solutions into reality.

Selected finalists will pitch their solutions in front of a panel of judges at the annual SA Innovation Summit which will kick off in Cape Town on September 11 – 13, 2019.

Unicorn Group will be the sponsor the prizes for the winners of the final competition at the SA Innovation Summit – the Africa Cup. The prizes are:

  • First winner will get R5 million investment and three weeks of accelerations in one of these three locations: Silicon Valley, Lagos, and Budapest. All travel expenses will be paid from the investment offer
  • Second Winner will get R2.5 million investment and two weeks of acceleration in one of the three locations, which all travel expenses will be paid from the investment offer
  • Third Winner will get R1 million investment and acceleration in South Africa.

The Winetech Pitching Den is inviting entrepreneurs with disruptive, innovative, cost-effective, and practical solutions to reduce the impact of the wine industry on the environment as well as pioneering ways to utilize technology in the production methods as well as encourage sustainable growth for small and large industry participants.

It focuses mainly on climate change, water reclamation and resourcing, genetics, machine learning, AI and big data, as well as other areas that increase efficiency profitability, and environmental sustainability.
