TechInAfrica – Vaccine rollout has been tracked by the South African council for teachers and staff in schools throughout the country. COVID-19 vaccines are given to educators and staff of schools on Wednesday 23 June in a two-week push project planning to administer 582,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine.

Teacher Vaccines Fast-Tracked

The process of vaccine rollout for teachers and staff in schools becomes the first and great stop in administering the country’s education system that has been disorganized since the pandemic began. Since March 2020, thousands of teachers have given up on the pandemic, and many students live in anxiety of school closures. Also, students are worrying about learning from home for almost one and a half years.

There are 300,000 doses of the J&J vaccine that will be received by the education sector. Meanwhile, another 282,000 vaccines will come before the end of June. Provincial authorities will be responsible for this particular rollout.

Provincial school management teams are also in charge of adding the school’s staff’s personal details to the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) since they can get the data from the Personal and Salary System (PERSAL). It means staff at schools do not need to register on the Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS).

The vaccination process hopes to finish on 8 July, the day schools in South Africa close before the mid-year holiday. To achieve this goal, monitoring may be necessary at an average rate of about 42,000 doses.

A total of 281 vaccination points will be set up for the educators and staff, with most provinces using permanent locations, according to Business Insider.

The largest share of permanent vaccination locations is in KwaZulu-Natal. The Eastern Cape and Free State use a compound model in which mobile phones reach remote and rural areas of the provinces.
