Teheca Limited Emerges as the Winner of Seedstars Kampala

TechInAfrica – Teheca Limited has been selected by a panel of judges as the winner of Seedstars Kampala 2019. The achievement brings the startup to represent Uganda at the Seedstars Summit Africa 2019 in December and a chance to save a slot at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland in April next year.

This year’s Seedstars Kampala pitching competition was held at the Kampala Innovation Week at Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds. The event is a collaborative initiative between several partners, including the Doen FoundationInternational Trade Centre (ITC)CBINSSF, Jumia, and the African Development Bank Group, and organized by Outbox Hub.

Teheca Limited won the Seedstars 2019 Kampala pitch competition after defeating two runners up, Yunga and Chap Chap in second and third place respectively.

Teheca Limited provides personalized and convenient access to post-birth healthcare services and support by connecting mothers and nurses to have an in-home checkup. It was established in 2017 through Up Accelerate—a UNFPA Uganda’s social innovation program which was run in collaboration with Outbox.

The first runner up, Yunga Technologies is a security device allowing homes to protect each other without using any help from security companies. Meanwhile, the second runner up, Chap Chap Africa is a company that digitizes SMEs’ day-to-day business transactions and creates financial profiles out of it.

Besides the three winning startups, other companies that made it to the final stage are gnuGrid Africa, Ugabus Ltd, PAAT SOIL CLINIC, Too Good, Ogaget Holding LTD, and The Online Butchery.

All the finalists showcased their businesses at the contest and were judged by a panel that consists of John Ndabarasa, Startup Relations and Engagement Associate at International Trade Center; Mina Shahid, Co-Founder & Co-CEO at Numida; Timothy Mugabe, Country Manager at Jumia Uganda; Nielsimms Sangho, Country Lead at FlutterWave; Otim Gerald, Founder and Lead; Ensibuuko and Maryam Mgonja, Regional Partnerships Manager, Africa at Seedstars.
