Kenya’s Moringa School Secures Investment from DOB Equity

TechInAfrica – The Kenyan multi-disciplinary coding school, Moringa School, has announced that it has secured an investment from DOB Equity. DOB Equity is a Dutch family-backed impact investor in East Africa. According to the coding school, the investment will be used to meet the growing demand for professional skills – specifically for the regional expansion of the school, as well as for the development and strengthening of its platform.

Moringa School was founded by Audrey Cheng and Frank Tamre in 2014, aiming at bridging the gap in the labor market. Its programs are aligned to data science and software development, offering market-driven education on relevant digital and professional skills that meet the job market’s needs.

“We’re excited to continue to grow our quality and students served in partnership with DOB. We are looking forward to drawing on DOB’s experience in East Africa, as we build new market-aligned courses and expand our offerings to students in Kenya. Currently, Moringa has served students in Kenya from over 10 countries in Africa and is also looking forward to increasing access to our courses for students from other countries,” said Audrey Cheng, Founder and Managing Director of Moringa.

As youth employment is increasing in Kenya as well as other African countries, there’s the demand for professional skills in today’s digital transformation era. Therefore, this school is continuing to match up with the rapid industrial changes to meet with the market labor needs.

Brigit van Dijk – van de Reijt, CEO of DOB Equity shared her opinion about the unemployment in Kenya. She stated that there was a need to prepare youth with skills in correlation to meet the needs of the growing market.

“The increasing global demand for tech talent, together with Africa’s rapidly rising youth population, makes this opportunity even more pressing,” said van Dijk.

Speaking for their part on the investment, Anne Njuki, Investment Manager of DOB Equity stated, “We felt an immediate strong bond with Moringa’s truly innovative and ambitious management team. We are proud to be teaming up with them and are extremely excited about Moringa as it builds new courses and scales up to develop even more future tech leaders.”
