Nigerian ICT Startup Chiniki Guard Wins $10K in the Category of AI at Dubai’s GITEX

TechInAfrica – A Nigerian ICT startup, Chiniki Guard, has named the winner of the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) in the category of Artificial Intelligence. The competition held in Dubai and as the winner of the category, Chiniki Guard has brought home a prize of 10,000 USD.

Chiniki Guard is an-AI security solution provided for retail stores and supermarkets, helping to monitor, detect, and notify shop owners when suspicious activities and shoplifting occur in real-time.

According to the Founder of Chiniki Guard, Abdulhakim Bashir, the recognition of the startup at GITEX would enable him to broaden the scale of his business. He also said that he would launch the app after GITEX as well as move to the cloud for storing data in order to fulfill the demand from shop owners.

Other than Chinika Guard, there are other Nigerian startups taking part in the exhibition, including 247Medic, Blue Circle of Notitia, Zowasel, Naira Packet, and Sublime Squares. The startups have gone through mentorship and supervision by the Office for ICT Innovation and Entrepreneurship (OIIE) which is a subsidiary of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

GITEX is the global annual tech gathering in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Africa. The participation of Nigeria at the event is spearheaded by NITDA. Meanwhile, some agencies that also represented the country at GITEX included Nigeria Postal Service, Nigeria Communication Satellite Limited, Nigeria Petroleum Exchange Commission, and Petroleum Equalisation Fund Management Board.
